Controller systems in commercial poultry houses are typically set to provide ideal conditions for optimizing bird growth with active feeding periods and appropriate rest times. An AGL monitored turkey farm showed an unusual drop in sound levels for a two-hour period during the day followed by a return to normal daytime levels. Discussion with the grower uncovered that the lights in the house were inadvertently set to turn off during that time. The grower was able to recover the lost feeding time for the remainder of the flock growout, although the suppressed behavioral pattern did persist for a period after the adjustment.
